Operations Engineer - Applications

AudienceScience, Inc. has exciting opportunities for Operations Engineers (Applications) within the Engineering team. Operations Engineers at AudienceScience are running the production platform behind a massively scalable system that provides audience targeted advertising for some of the biggest names on the web. They have a knack for building highly scalable operational environments that keep the infrastructure behind 2.5+ billion daily transactions humming along.

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Manage our web and java based applications, ensuring uptime, responsiveness and SLAs in a production environment
  • Configure and maintain tools in our operations center that help keep the application operating efficiently
  • Manage new builds and server deployments
  • Troubleshoot service problems, escalating issues within the organization as needed
  • Provide daily / weekly operations reports to Operations Management
  • Work in a shift-based work schedule

Requirements/Skills:

  • Bachelor's / Master's degree in Computer Science / Engineering or equivalent degree/diploma
  • 0 - 2.5+ years of full-time relevant experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to be detail-oriented
  • Strong analytical skills

Successful candidates will have:

  • Knowledge or familiarity with one or more of the following monitoring tools: Nagios, Cacti, Keynote.com, Ganglia, Webmetrics.com
  • Knowledge or familiarity with CFEngine, Kickstart or other similar configuration tools
  • Knowledge or familiarly with Tomcat, Java and other open source projects
  • Previous production environment, data center experience involving Linux/Unix, Java applications, databases
  • Good knowledge and familiarity with Linux environments (some scripting skills would be advantageous)
  • Working knowledge of Internet protocols, relational databases such as MS SQL/ Oracle / MySQL, and data warehouses
  • Some experience diagnosing and resolving server, OS, applications, hardware and network failures
  • Knowledge or familiarity with Amazon EC2/S3, the “Cloud” and Hadoop / HDFS would be a plus
  • Spent 18 months or more at their current workplace (for those applicants with work experience)
